CEO DATELINE - Gas association supports "reasonable" cybersecurity regulations

In the wake of the early May ransomware attack on Colonial Pipeline, the American Gas Association said it supports Thursday's announcement of new pipeline security regulations by the Transportation Security Administration.

However, AGA's statement left scope for unspecified disagreements about details.
"We support the intent of the recently issued Pipeline Security Directive," AGA Managing Director for Security and Operations Kimberly Denbow said in the statement.
"TSA is headed in the right direction and we look forward to identifying concrete measures to bolster our common mission of pipeline security and public safety," she said.
The order from TSA, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, requires pipeline operators to report all "confirmed and potential cybersecurity incidents" to the department's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and to designate a cybersecurity coordinator who will be constantly available.
AGA said in its statement that its board passed a resolution last week "to support reasonable cybersecurity regulations."
While the Colonial Pipeline attack disrupted supplies of gasoline and jet fuel, AGA represents local natural gas pipeline companies.
